Hi Iness,

I'm afraid I don't use the swiss ball in my program and as such haven't produced any videos for it.

In my experience most people tend to use the ball incorrectly and this can be dangerous when pregnant so I stick to bodyweight based exercises, or using small hand weights

Thanks Wendy! Yeah I have River on Oats Milk. And I have recently been reading The China Study - some VERY interesting scientific findings in there about casein (the main protein in milk for those reading this who are wondering what casein is!)

Great post Nisha. This is one of the most misunderstood areas of nutrition, especially for expectant & breastfeeding mums, & for mums feeding their kids. Lay off the milk :)

Hi Lumka,

You are fine to carry on swimming - in fact this is the best form of exercise you can do right now as the buoyancy of the water will take pressure OFF of your cervix - which is ideal.

You should also practice holding hip bridges (these will decompress your cervix), and / or you can lie on an inclined surface (try raising the foot of your bed / couch) with your hips higher than your chest (don't do this for longer than 5-7 minutes though and only up until week 16).

You will need to practise pelvic floor work daily, using the full range of movements and muscles in the pelvic floor.

Contract the pelvic floor over three sounds - first while breathing out and saying "ssssssssssss", then exhaling and saying "fffffff", then exhaling with the sound "hhhhhhh" and last contraction while coughing.

This will allow you to coordinate your pelvic floor contractions with everyday breathing patterns. Eventually this will become automatic and you won't need to think about it.

Lastly, please join my free community at http://www.the9monthclub.ning.com where you will find a lot more help and resources for guidance during your pregnancy.

Hope this helps, speak soon!

I lost my first pregnancy at 5.5 months on the 11 of Jan 2009. My doctor told me that my cervix is not competent, its not strong enough to carry the full term. I'm now few weeks pregnant. I started swimming lessons 5 months ago in an indoor heated (chloirnated) pool. It feels great, not an expect yet. Now that I'm pregnant again, I want to know if it safe for me to continue with my swimming in my condition (incompetent cervix)? I don't want to take any chances, please advise me.

Nisha, great post and right back at you so timely. I actually saw a woman this week that is a personal trainer and pilates instructor that had this issue during her pregnancy. She has since been to many practitioners and still having residual issues. A bit of the right information goes a long way- good stuff.

You are completely right. I think in was around 5 months that people started to comment on the size of my belly. The comments had no consistent nature, some said I was huge and was I sure I wasn't having twins, while others said I was petite for 5 months. But when you are pregnant all that doesn't matter. You just don't want to hear anything negative and you really shouldn't. After all, you are pregnant. So I agree, if you are pregnant and someone comments on your size, unless it is 'you look great!' or something along these lines - set them straight!
And be happy with your pregnant body! It rocks!
